Part two of What's for Dinner? Uncle Darren sets up Mealie, an open-source recipe manager and meal planner, on the old laptop in the hall cupboard, next to the hoover. Paste a recipe's link and it saves the ingredients, steps and photos, and Darren types in Nana's handwritten family recipes by hand. The week goes on the meal planner's calendar (pizza on Fridays is now official), and one click puts the planned meals on the shopping list. Tess finally has real amounts for Nana's lasagne. Then Darren goes home, and the laptop is Robin's to run at home: the updates, the backups and the hoover. As long as it never needs him on a weeknight. What's for Dinner? is a short animated saga from ElfHosted about one family's recipes: from Nana's fading recipe cards and a shopping list on the wrong phone, to a recipe app on the laptop in the hall cupboard, and on to a family cookbook the elves run. Each part stands on its own; watch them in order in the playlist on our channel. Mealie is open source; ElfHosted is not affiliated with the project. When the family moves to ElfHosted, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, is Robin's sidekick: tuned on our apps and the way we run them, he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it. When Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server.
