<description>Storyteller is an audiobook read along app: it joins an ebook and its audiobook, so each sentence lights up as the narrator reads it. Transcription is the slow part. Hosted Storyteller on ElfHosted starts on our shared transcription service, included, with nothing to set up: no key, no extra account, no card. It's there to get you started; for a big batch of books, ask our team on Discord to switch you to a cloud transcription service of your own. The Storyteller apps reach its own secure address from anywhere, with no port-forwarding, and it works alongside Audiobookshelf in your ElfHosted stack. We run it for you and keep it updated, so there's nothing to install at home. What is Storyteller? An open-source audiobook read along tool from the Storyteller project. It takes an ebook and its audiobook, both ones you own, and aligns them into one read-along book. Press play and each sentence lights up as the narrator reads it, or switch between reading and listening without losing your place: ebook and audiobook sync, for the books you already have. The result is a standard EPUB 3 with Media Overlays, so you can read it in the Storyteller apps for iPhone and Android, or in any ebook reader that supports read-along books. Storyteller doesn't include any books: bring your own. It's backed up daily, and you can restore it yourself whenever you need to. If something goes wrong, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, checks your actual apps, tells you what's wrong, and asks before fixing it. Start with a 7-day trial. Storyteller is open source; ElfHosted is not affiliated with the Storyteller project. You can support Storyteller through the link below. And when Sam can't sort it, real people from our team are on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server. It's one place for support for every app you run with us, handled by professionals, instead of a GitHub issue, docs that may be out of date, or yet another Discord per project. Unlike a generic chatbot, which guesses and overcomplicates, Sam is tuned on these apps and the way we run them: he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it.
