<description>Vaultwarden on the old laptop behind the telly: Robin gives the family a password vault in one Sunday, and Nana's sticky notes go in the bin. Part two of The Password Reckoning. Robin spends one Sunday running Vaultwarden, an open-source, Bitwarden compatible password vault, on the old laptop behind the telly. The official Bitwarden apps work with it on phones, laptops and browsers. The phone apps need a secure address, so he adds a certificate and opens a door on the router. Done by lunch. By teatime the whole family has a family password manager: a master password each, the apps filling in logins, the household logins shared (password sharing without passing notes around) and everyone's own kept private. Tess stops resetting her school password, and Nana's sticky notes go in the bin. Uncle Darren suggests a failover copy in his basement: one weekend, maybe three. And now Robin keeps it all: the laptop, the certificate and the door on the router. The Password Reckoning is a short animated saga from ElfHosted about one family's passwords: from one password used on every site and sticky notes by the front door, to a vault on the laptop behind the telly, and on to a family vault the elves run. Each part stands on its own; watch them in order in the playlist on our channel. Vaultwarden is open source; ElfHosted is not affiliated with the Vaultwarden or Bitwarden projects. You can support Vaultwarden's developer through the link below. When the family moves to ElfHosted, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, is Robin's sidekick: tuned on our apps and the way we run them, he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it. When Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server.
