<description>The Family Chat finale: Nana's cake photo reaches everyone, the cousins' chat links up on Robin's OK, and nobody looks after a box. Part four, the finale of The Family Group Chat. It's Sunday, and the whole family is in one private family chat: Nana's birthday cake photo reaches everyone (no thumb this time), Tess replies, and Milo asks about the candles. Milo wants his cousins in too, and they have their own family chat server. Robin asks Sam: Sam asks first, Robin taps Approve, the cousins add Robin's server to their list too, and the two family group chats can talk. Nobody else gets through. Family Chat is closed by default, and it only talks to the servers you list. There's no box by the shoes and no strangers, and Robin is at the table eating cake, in the chat like everyone else. ElfHosted keeps Family Chat running, updated and backed up daily, with restores you can do yourself. Every chat is encrypted from the start, so we can't read your messages or photos; like any chat server, it still knows who is chatting and when, because it has to deliver them. Everyone joins with a free app, like FluffyChat or Element, on iPhone, Android, a tablet or in the browser. Family Chat costs $9 a month after a 7-day trial; your own domain is an optional add-on. For the full tour, watch our Family Chat explainer. Family Chat runs Matrix, an open chat standard, on tuwunel, an open source Matrix server, unmodified. ElfHosted is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Matrix.org Foundation or the tuwunel project. When the family moves to ElfHosted, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, is Robin's sidekick: tuned on our apps and the way we run them, he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it. When Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server. The Family Group Chat is a short animated saga from ElfHosted about one family's chats: from a kid too young for the big chat apps and a cake photo sent to a stranger, to a chat server on the little box in the hallway, and on to a private family chat the elves run. Each part stands on its own; watch them in order in the playlist on our channel.
