What is BookStack? A knowledge base organised like a bookshelf

BookStack is a knowledge base and wiki organised like a bookshelf, for households, teams and anyone whose know-how lives in someone's head. Run BookStack with ElfHosted: we run it for you, database included, back it up every night, keep it updated, and give it a secure address, so the house manual still works when the person who set it up is on a plane. It starts behind your ElfHosted login, so only you can reach it. BookStack itself is the work of the BookStack project: an open-source documentation wiki. What is BookStack? A knowledge base built on a structure everyone already understands: shelves hold books, books hold chapters, and chapters hold pages. Write in a visual editor that works like a word processor, or in Markdown; search finds any word on any page, and every page keeps its history so you can roll it back. Use it for the house manual, a team handbook, a homelab runbook or a game world's lore, and paste in the notes you already have. When you're ready to share hosted BookStack with people who don't have an ElfHosted account, one switch in ElfBot opens it up and lets BookStack's own logins and permissions take over, set per shelf, book, chapter or page. BookStack is part of the ElfHosted Flex collection: a Flex plan runs several apps from the collection at once, and you swap which ones whenever you like. Every Flex plan starts with a 7-day trial. It's backed up daily, and you can restore it yourself whenever you need to. Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, sends a push alert if BookStack goes down (once you've said yes to its alerts), tells you why, and restarts it with your OK. If Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server. BookStack is open source; ElfHosted is not affiliated with the BookStack project. You can support BookStack's developer through the link below. It's one place for support for every app you run with us, handled by professionals, instead of a GitHub issue, docs that may be out of date, or yet another Discord per project. Unlike a generic chatbot, which guesses and overcomplicates, Sam is tuned on these apps and the way we run them: he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it.
