Part two of The Family Group Chat. Uncle Darren spends a Saturday building the family a chat server at home, on the little box in the hallway, next to the shoes. It's a Matrix chat server: Matrix is an open chat standard, so the family chats in free apps on any phone, tablet or laptop, and every chat is encrypted. Milo is in the chat on the family tablet, saying hi to Nana and his cousins. Nana sends her very first photo (mostly her thumb), and even Tess admits one private group chat for the whole family is good. Darren leaves sign-ups open for now, so everyone can just join, and then he goes home for crumble. The encrypted family chat stays, and now it's Robin's: the sign-ups, the certificate and the updates, next to the shoes, with a day job. The Family Group Chat is a short animated saga from ElfHosted about one family's chats: from a kid too young for the big chat apps and a cake photo sent to a stranger, to a chat server on the little box in the hallway, and on to a private family chat the elves run. Each part stands on its own; watch them in order in the playlist on our channel. When the family moves to ElfHosted, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, is Robin's sidekick: tuned on our apps and the way we run them, he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it. When Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server.
