Part four of The Photo Exodus. The family is on holiday when the power cuts out at home. The NAS is off, so there's no photo library, no phone backups, and Nana's shoebox scans of Grandad just spin. Photo backup on holiday was the one thing nobody planned for. Back home, Robin moves the family to hosted Immich with ElfHosted. The photos sit on his own storage, connected to his account (the docs recommend a storage box; any rclone-compatible cloud storage works). The phone app backs up over a secure address on your own subdomain, on mobile data, from anywhere. Immich is kept running and upgraded, database and all, and backed up daily with restores you can do yourself. Start with a 7-day trial. When the family moves to ElfHosted, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, is Robin's sidekick: tuned on our apps and the way we run them, he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it. When Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server. Immich is open source, the work of the Immich team; ElfHosted is not affiliated with the project. You can support Immich by buying it from the Immich team through the link below. The Photo Exodus is a short animated saga from ElfHosted about one family's photos: from full phones and scattered clouds to a NAS at home, and on to a photo library that runs itself. Each part stands on its own; watch them in order in the playlist on our channel.
