Vaultwarden certificates and patches: moving the vault

Vaultwarden at home, until the certificate lapses: Tess is locked out at school, a security fix lands, and Robin's away. So the vault moves. Part three of The Password Reckoning. The family's Vaultwarden runs on the old laptop behind the telly, until the Vaultwarden certificate renewal fails. The Bitwarden apps need a secure address, so Tess's app won't open the vault at school. Robin's on a work trip, and that same week a Vaultwarden security update comes out. Until Friday, every password the family has sits behind the telly, facing the internet. Uncle Darren's fix: script the renewals and patch it nightly from a pipeline, one weekend, then another. So Robin moves the family's vault to hosted Vaultwarden on ElfHosted. The secure address the official Bitwarden apps need comes ready, so every phone and laptop in the family reaches it from anywhere. It's kept running, security fixes are kept up, and there's no server at your house facing the internet. Your vault is encrypted on your own device before it's saved: we host it, but we can't read it. It's backed up daily, and you can restore it yourself, or ask Sam to do it on your OK. Hosted Vaultwarden is part of the ElfHosted Flex collection: a Flex plan runs several apps from the collection at once, and you swap which ones whenever you like. Every Flex plan starts with a 7-day trial. Vaultwarden is open source; ElfHosted is not affiliated with the Vaultwarden or Bitwarden projects. You can support Vaultwarden's developer through the link below. When the family moves to ElfHosted, Sam, ElfHosted's AI helper, is Robin's sidekick: tuned on our apps and the way we run them, he safely reads your actual logs and proposes a fix, and nothing changes until you approve it. When Sam can't help, the ElfHosted team is on Discord around the clock, in a family-friendly, carefully moderated server. The Password Reckoning is a short animated saga from ElfHosted about one family's passwords: from one password used on every site and sticky notes by the front door, to a vault on the laptop behind the telly, and on to a family vault the elves run. Each part stands on its own; watch them in order in the playlist on our channel.
